I'm RED ENGINE GOREDed then, if i end up looking like my dad ill be forever alone x2. Around here actually if you do get into shape everyone'll think youre on drugs, and if you dont get into shape theyre gonna talk about how unhealthy you are. I think people are too concerned with appearance, and not to sound sexist, but its mostly women who are the most vain.

my hubbys dad is in really good shape--he is a mason (builds houses) so he is laying bricks, putting up scaffolding, moving wheel barrels of crude around all day--though he is finally retiring since he has no cartilage in one knee and some really good back pain (that one is easy to figure out)....so that is not the case for hubby (we already know he has a weight issue--had it as a kid and his grandparents were obese, except one).

as for my family...my dad weighed over 300 at his heaviest, his father was a twig as was his mother, my mom was heavy only because she had so many kids (and the last one at age 40!), her mom was the typical redwood tree looking swedish lady while her dad was well into his 300s as well (baker by training--hard to NOT eat those tasty tasty breads and rolls!!!--fiep would have been in heaven!).
I got my moms build even withOUT the kids ...so no excuses for me except genes.....sometimes I really really HATE being related to my parents, mostly when I have to go to the doctor and answer 'does/did anyone in your family have the following---' and for most questions its YES. (actually one of the reasons for not having kids on my part).

You can fight your genes for part of the time--my hubby did in school (was on wrestling and football), but once you give up....starting back up will be harder and harder as you get older---its almost impossible!

Cosy nailed it. You can fight off the genes so long as you stay active. You start sitting around doing nothing but playing games all day, you will quickly lose the battle. And I guess I shouldn't say you are for sure going to look like your parents, but you are predisposed towards their body type, unless you stay active. So be active, get out, play sports, run, walk, jog, whatever you need to do to keep yourself active and you will be ok.

I guess my family has pretty good genes. Never really looked at it much that way.

they do say you can pick your friends, but you cant pick your family (genes).

The horrible part is when you are a kid and see your parents doing something and you say 'I will NEVER do that!!' and 20 or so years later,....you catch yourself doing it and then know you have turned into your parent !!!

more rain and the temps are much nicer...too bad the humidity is high (not good for computer)....

Ya I see myself doing that stuff all the time. It happens I guess. Not much you can do about it now.

Lots of rain this morning. And ya, much cooler out. Have the windows open. Looks like windows will be open the next few days.

A little bit of history in Boston this weekend.

"The world's oldest commissioned warship will sail under its own power for just the second time in more than a century.
The USS Constitution's trip, planned for Sunday, will commemorate the battle that won it the nickname "Old Ironsides."
The Constitution, first launched in 1797, will be tugged from its berth into Boston Harbor, then set out to open seas for a 10-minute cruise.
The short trip marks the day two centuries ago when the Constitution bested the British frigate HMS Guerriere during the War of 1812. It's the first time the Constitution has been to sea on its own since its 200th birthday.

Visited Boston on our way to Ireland in 08....not quite the way I remember it from the last time I was there in the 70's...but still has some really good restaurants and nice places to walk.


wonderful day today...not tooo hot, a nice breeze...and the a/c didnt come on until noonish!! (even WITH the balcony door open)....nice to feel the breeze of saving cash!

Never been to Boston. Really haven't been out East tbh. Gone west, but never east. Very odd...

First day of school. Only had students for a half day but it was enough to tire me out. Should be a good semester though. I hope.
